Sarah Lynn Richards is an artist and licensed psychotherapist working from her studio on the coast of Maine. Her vibrant, award-winning watercolors defy categorization. Sarah's art is exhibited at numerous galleries, museums and shows throughout the United States.

Sarah's education is as eclectic as her work. She likens the tremendous emotion in her watercolors to her studies in psychotherapy and her lifelong experience with horses and nature.

"Art in its essence is about expression. Expressions of who we are, how we feel, what we interpret the world to be. The art of therapy is similar. It is about learning to express ourselves with truth and dignity in all situations. My work is an expression of how I see the world. There exists both good and bad in everything; beauty and ugliness define each other. Dark and light rely upon one another. This is why I paint not only the iridescent spirit of the horse, but also lowly lumpy toads. Art, like life therapy and many things, is deepended and enriched when we explore all possibillities."

The spirit in her painting is what draws people from all walks of life. Rather than focus on perfection and detail, Sarah's most inspiring work is free, loose and grounded only in the elemental spirit of its subject.

"Horses are my most cherished, most painted companions. They exude balance, harmony and power. When you get to know one very well, you realize that they are tremendously spiritied, fair minded and generous animals. I believe that these elements exist in human beings and that may be why we are so drawn to them. From horses and the art of therapy. I have learned to appreciate sincerity, patience, and perhaps most of all the power that comes when we accept the true nature of things. These are driving forces in my work as an artist."
